ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was designed to investigate into school plant planning and students’ academic performance in Egor Local Government Area, Edo State. Five research questions were raised to guide the study. Does Classroom as an aspect of school plant planning influence students' academic performance? Does Laboratory as an aspect of school plant planning influence students'academic performance? Does Library as an aspect of school plant planning influence students'academic performance? Does Playground as an aspect of school plant planning influence students'academic performance ? Does furniture as an aspect of school plant planning influence students'academic performance? The descriptive survey research design was used for this study. The population of the study comprised all the twelve public senior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area, Edo State, current principals were used as respondents . A sample size of six public senior secondary schools were randomly selected from the population. Checklist was the instrument used to elicit information from the respondents. The data collated were analyzed using Frequency count and simple percentage. The findings from the study revealed that classroom has substantial relationship with students’ academic performance and adequate classroom planning is an inevitable requirement for conducive learning environment which enhances students’ academic performance in secondary schools. It was seen that Library has significant relationship with performances of students and it is also the hub of academic learning which when inadequately planned has a tool on students academic performance. It was further revealed that playground has a significant relationship with students'academic performance and that playground as school plant provides a base for students' extracurricular activities which enhances students cognitive, affective and psychomotor domain of learning and by extension enhances students ‘academic performance. The recommendation includes; Non-governmental organization (NGOs) should not relent in assisting Government in making provisions for school libraries for they are the centre for learning and information gathering to both teachers and students, Nigeria Government should endeavor to provide adequate funds for provision and maintenance of school plants.
