INVESTIGATING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN GOOD GOVERNANCE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OUTCOMES IN IKA SOUTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF DELTA STATE

Abstract

This study investigate the relationship between good governance and sustainable development outcomes in Ika South local government area of delta state. Its objectives are to examine governance policy strategy adopted by Nigeria government to resolve sustainable development issues, to determine the extent to which citizens’ perception of good governance influences sustainable development issues, to investigate whether governance policies affect the nature and pace of sustainable development and to find out the challenges describe as inherent in executing governance policies for sustainable development.

The instrument used for data collection is structured questionnaire which is a major instrument used for gathering data in survey research. Findings revealed thatthere is a relationship between governance policy strategies and Nigeriagovernment to resolve sustainable development issues and also reveals that there is also a relationship between citizenry perception of good governance and sustainable development.Based on these findings, it was recommended that different arms of government should be allowed to efficiently perform their functions without influences. Administrators (political appointees and bureaucrats) should be trained and equipped with administrative tools to realize efficiency and the civil societies (NGOs, private market operators, etc) should complement the effort of the government‘s by being law-abiding.
