ABSTRACT

This study explores the challenges faced by history teachers in Ovia North East secondary schools, focusing on limited resources, large class sizes, lack of professional development, limited time, and the complexity of the subject matter. The research aims to identify effective strategies for improving the delivery of quality history education that is relevant and engaging to students' lives.

The initial chapter of the study emphasizes the significance of teaching history in secondary schools, underscoring its role in promoting critical thinking and analytical skills, encouraging cultural diversity, and providing a comprehensive understanding of the world. Nevertheless, the study recognizes the difficulties encountered by history teachers in Ovia North East, such as inadequate resources, large class sizes, and time limitations.

The scope focuses on Ovia North East secondary schools, analyzing the challenges and strategies used by history teachers.

The relevance of the study lies in addressing the identified challenges to enhance the quality of history education. The findings aim to guide educational policymakers, school administrators, and teachers in improving education quality in Nigeria. By understanding and overcoming these challenges, history teachers can provide students with a high-quality education essential for their academic and personal growth, contributing to a more tolerant and inclusive society.
