ABSTRACT
The present study delved into the perspectives and attitudes of Urhobo individuals residing in Ughelli, Delta State, regarding their responsibilities as voters. Four pertinent research questions served as the guiding framework for this investigation. The sample group comprised 100 carefully selected respondents hailing from four distinct communities within the Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State. The descriptive survey methodology provided the foundation for this research. The statistical analysis of the gathered data was conducted utilizing mean scores and standard deviations to distill meaningful insights.
The study's findings indicate an optimistic disposition among the Urhobo people toward voting activities in Ughelli, Delta State. It was determined that several factors influencing this attitude include widespread poverty, educational attainment, political affiliations, ethnic composition, and candidate trustworthiness.
The study recommends, among other things, that the federal and state governments establish targeted civic education initiatives in Ughelli to heighten awareness of the significance of voting responsibility among the Urhobo people. These programs should emphasize the importance of responsible voting and informed decision-making for community development.
