ABSTRACT

The need for waste water to be treated is relevant because they are toxic to the environment.. In order to reduce environmental pollution, it is important that measures are being taken to manage this waste water. In this work, the treatment of abbatoir waste water was studied. Recent studies has shown that photcatalysis is a better alternative for the treatment of wastewater due to its effective,ecofriendly and efficient degradation activity of organic pollutants. Carcinated eggshell powder was used as the photocatalyst for this study because it’s a low-cost adsorbent and high content-calcium carbonate. Test was carried out for various parameters that determine the quality of the waste water. Two major processes were carried out in this study: 5(1g,2g,3g,4g,5g) different concentration of the eggshell catalyst were varied over a specific time interval of 1hour and was  tested for the total dissolved solid, electric conductivity, chemical oxygen demand and dissolved oxygen. A specific concentration of 2g was varied over different time intervals for 5 samples( 15mins. 30mins, 45mins, 60mins and  75mins). Both process yielded positive outcomes which proved that the effect of the concentration and time determine the performance of photocatalysis from the test carried out on all four parameters.
