Abstract
The issue of nutrition and balanced diet for children continues to be a serious problem in most developing countries including Nigeria as it is directly or indirectly associated with many Children’s growth deficiencies. In view of the persisting high number of malnourished children in Nigeria, there has been several Government and Non-Governmental partnership intervention programmes to curb nutritional issues and malnutrition of children which is awesome, for example partnership with WHO(world health organization) and UNICEF. The researcher realized that some reasons behind the persistence of the nutrient related diseases include: lack of proper sensitization of what a good nutrition for children entails among mothers, general ignorance about the importance of balanced diet , poverty, poor dietary habits, faulty weaning practices, , family size, lack of exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of life, inadequate health education on malnutrition , its complications, and inadequate information on RUTF.
The researcher lay great emphasis on mother’s education, as this can reduce the risk of nutritional deficiencies.
If these problems can be properly addressed, and mother’s education on nutritional need for their children is implemented, then the problem and challenges associated with malnutrition facing our children will be successfully prevented and controlled in Egor Health Centre, Benin City and Nigeria at large.
