SUMMARY The purpose of this intervention programme was to increase awareness, positive attitude and Knowledge of UTIs in pregnancy. The screening exercise revealed that many people despite their frequent interaction with the Health Centre still have limited knowledge about the risk factors of UTIs. Even the few that seem to be aware of some of the factors, still have wrong attitude and less commitment to the recommended practices, habits and life style modifications that are healthpromoting. This then necessitated the need for an intervention programme that will not only help people determine their risk level, but also get the necessary counseling and health messages that will empower them to prevent the disease. The screening was thorough and client-centered and the messages were succinctly passed in simple language and media. As a follow-up to the counseling, postal illustrations and health talks were given. Months later SMS were also sent as a reminder on the recommended practices to ameliorate the risk. Following the intervention, knowledge, attitude and practices of the participants changed as expressed by the participants and observed by the health educator.
