SUMMARY
The preceptorship programme was an intervention to increase the awareness on benefits and practice of exclusive breastfeeding among nursing mothers in Dutse-Alhaji primary health centre, F.C.T, Abuja. The researcher identified four problems needing intervention, which among others include: inadequate information to sensitize nursing mothers on the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding and the introduction of formula feeding and water any time from birth. Four objectives were formulated to guide intervention of the programme. The Theory of Planned Behavior was used as a theoretical framework to guide the implementation of activities needed to change behavior. After evaluation, the researcher found out that the intervention programme was successful.
