ABSTRACT
This study is basically to discuss interracial fear and how it affects its victims. Interracial fear appears in different ways such as negrophobia and blancophobia as a result of stereotypes. Various authors such as Angie Thomas and Jewell Parker Rhodes have their own take on it. In present times interracial fear is still eating up the society, though conscious efforts are being made by some whites and blacks to understand each other, rather than focusing on racial stereotypes, in other to reduce fear and hate. Some whites now suffer from white guilt and make conscious efforts to avoid racial bias when it comes to dealing with blacks while blacks now try to be more welcoming and friendly when dealing with the white race in other not to be perceived as dangerous. Although the whites are affected by this interracial fear the blacks take in a higher percentage of the impact of this fear as seen in the case of Khalil from The Hate U Give and Jerome from Ghost Boys. During the course of this study a question comes to mind. “Is there a connection between stereotype and racial discrimination in interracial fear? Yes there is, each race focusing on the stereotypes about the other race rather than the individuals has increased the fear and hatred among races affecting the way they relate to one another and bringing about racial discrimination.
