INTERGROUP RELATIONS BETWEEN UZAIRUE PEOPLE AND THEIR NEIGHBOURS.

ABSTRACT

The study has examined the nature of intergroup relations before and after Nigeria came into existence as a country due to the amalgamation of formerly independent kingdoms, cities, empires and clans. The study which focuses on the Uzairue people, identifies who they are by examining the historical origin of the Uzairue people, the geography and the nature of their environment. This study also examines their various political institutions, social institutions and their economic activities. A cursory look at the concept of intergroup relations would show that any human society is conceived as the collectivity of economic, social, and political activities of individuals, which gives them access to the basic necessities of life. This is because man by nature is a dependent creature; he depends on his environment and others for food, shelter and clothing. This means that no group or human community, notwithstanding it level of development can be an island entirely to itself.
