ABSTRACT
This study was designed to investigate the effect of Instructional Materials on the Teaching and Learning of Nursery and Primary school learners in Ovia North-East local government area of Edo state. Four (4) research questions were raised and answered The study was a descriptive study. The population of this study comprises of all the one hundred and eighty-seven (187) nursery teachers and three hundred and five (305) primary school teachers in all the one hundred and seventy-three (173) Nursery and Primary schools in the respective Nursery and Primary Schools in Ovia North-East local government area. Forty (40) schools comprising of twenty (20) private and twenty (20) public nursery and primary schools were purposively selected from the one hundred and seventy-three nursery and primary schools in Ovia North-East local government. A total of 100 respondents from were sampled for this study. The instrument used to collect data in this study is the questionnaire titled “Effect of Instructional Materials on the Teaching and Learning of Nursery and Primary School Learners Questionnaire (EIMTLNPSLQ)”. Data was analyzed using statistical tool of mean and standard deviation and findings revealed that there is a good usage of instructional Materials in nursery and primary school in Ovia North-East local government area of Edo state, there is a strong relationship between teacher’s training skills and its influence on children’s performance in nursery and primary school in Ovia North-East local government area of Edo state and availability of instructional materials has a good influence on children’s performance in nursery and primary school in Ovia North-East local government area of Edo state. Based on the analysis of the data, it is recommended that school management should ensure that available instructional materials are properly monitored and they should development good maintenance culture to care for the available ones and federal and state governments should show more interest to teaching pupils by allocating more funds to the sector and set a follow-up team to ensure that these funds are used properl
