ABSTRACT

Insecurity has reigned over all nations in the world, ranging from the developed states to the under developing and developing states in the international system. However, insecurity has had and still has adverse effects on the under developing and developing states in the world. One of which, is Nigeria. Nigeria has for decades on end, suffered the bane of insecurity, which has in turn impaled its socio-political development and injured its external image. As there can be no development without peace, the nation’s level of poverty and emigration from the nation has over time become heightened, while its external image has continued to suffer from insecurity. The need to curb the rate of insecurity within the nation cannot be overestimated, hence the need for this study. This study examined the effect of insecurity on the external image of Nigeria and on its level of migration and rate of poverty. The study adopted the descriptive survey design and as well, adopted both quantitative and qualitative methods of analysis, using primary and secondary data. Findings of the study revealed that there is an existent effect of insecurity on the external image of Nigeria. It also established that the rate of insecurity has greatly increased the level of migration and poverty within Nigeria. The study also recommended that the Nigerian government should gain awareness on the effects of insecurity on its socio-political development, gain strong allies in the international system that can come to its aid in terms of armies, weaponry and other areas, as well as to develop their military prowess through the use of artificial intelligence and to prioritize measures for reducing the insecurity of the nation, thus providing enough budget to the defense allocation of the nation.
