ABSTRACT

Over the course of nine years, from 2014 to 2022, this study examined the impact of information technology on the corporate performance of deposit money banks (DMBs) in Nigeria. The aim of the research is to evaluate the impact of internet banking systems on the growth of deposit money banks (DMBs) in Nigeria, investigate the role that mobile banking services have played in the sector's development, and ascertain the extent to which the use of Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) has enabled DMBs to flourish in Nigeria. The study adopted the ex-post facto research design employing the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) approach to determine the link between the dependent and independent variables. The data analysis showed that there was a significant positive correlation between the corporate performance of Nigerian deposit money banks and internet banking services; additionally, there was a positive and significant correlation between mobile banking transactions and the corporate performance of Nigerian deposit money banks; and lastly, there was a positive but negligible correlation between ATM transactions and the corporate performance of Nigerian deposit money banks. In order to further drive economic growth and financial inclusion in the nation, the study concluded that these findings highlight the growing significance of information technology as a tool for improving the efficiency and competitiveness of DMBs in Nigeria. It also highlights the need for ongoing investment and innovation in information technology banking services. As a result, the study recommends that DMBs make the following investments: i. improve their internet banking platforms; ii. increase the variety of ATM services they offer; and ii. expand their mobile banking offerings.
