ABSTRACT

This study examined Information Communication Technology Adoption and Ease of Student Management in University of Benin from 2012-2022. Significant progress has been observed in ICT Adoption and its utilization within the last couple of years, with many services delivered by students’ management in the universities such as payment of school fees, clearance, course registration and hostel accommodation allotment amongst others; but there are however plagued with challenges most especially, slow service delivery, of which is expected to be addressed by Electronic-Administration with the promise of ICT Adoption. The objectives of this study were to assess the impact of Remita on ease of school fees payment, to identify the impact of West Africa E-University Project (WAeUP) on ease of students course registration, students’ clearance, and hostel accommodation allotment; and to proffer solutions to the constraints of Information Communication Technology Adoption and ease of students’ management in University of Benin. This study made use of survey and documentary research method, using primary and secondary sources of data collection; questionnaires, textbooks, internet and journals. Staff of Central Records and Processing Unit/Information Communication and Technology Unit, Bursary Department, Student Affairs Department and Students in halls of residence were the population of this study. The findings of this study revealed that ICT Adoption has created ease in student management, however, there are still challenges of lack of ICT facilities and staff, unstable power supply, errors in online records amongst others. This study concluded that the use of ICT tools like Remita and WAeUP by administrators and students is to support daily management activities; it is used mainly for record keeping, retrieval of student information in the activities of school fees payment, clearance, registration and online hostel allotment. This study recommended that there should be provision of ICT facilities, stable power, employment of more staff, upgrade of ICT facilities to global standard and rectified web issues for efficiency in management activities.
