ABSTRACT

The study sought to examine the influence of work environment on construction project success in tertiary institutions in Benin City, Edo State. The objectives of the study were to assess the nature of work environment, work factors influencing construction project success and relationship between work environment factors and construction project success. Thus, the population of the study comprised professionals working in the selected institutions in Edo State. The professionals were of the total of 62 for the research study. In an attempt to realize the objectives of the study, 53 questionnaires were administered to the professionals. The data collected from the professionals was analyzed using Mean Item Score and descriptive statistics and Correlation. The nature of work environment and factors influencing construction project success where analyzed using questionnaire. Also the factors responsible for this level of performance were assessed and the possible measures for improving these performances were proffered. Data gathered were analyzed using mean item score. The nature of work environment where categorized as; stores, site office, provision of temporary fence etc., while the factors includes physical, social, economic, financial, etc. For work environment factors, the major influencing factors include; financial factor, physical factors, project success factors where seen as effective communication between stakeholders, company’s financial strength, company’s technical capacity, scope and work definition, and so on. It was seen that there was a relationship between work environment factor and construction project factors.
