ABSTRACT
This study is aimed at investigating the influence of the use of laboratory on students’ academic performance in Biology faculty of Education. Specifically the study is investigating the effects of laboratory on the academic performance of Biology students, influence of laboratory facilities on Biology student's performance in adequately equipped laboratories and in inadequately equipped laboratories and laboratory facilities available and utilized in Biology. A cross-sectional survey (Quantitative research) is carried out with questionnaires distributed to 100 full time Biology Education students of the University of Benin, Ugbowo campus. 100 copies of questionnaires were distributed to each participant for self-administration. Results are indicative of a positive level of awareness amongst Biology education students about the facilities available and required for positive academic performance as majority had good knowledge of the facilities, A larger number had good knowledge of the extent to which laboratory practice influence the performance of biology education students with respondents pointing out the importance of laboratory practice in their grades as well as the influence of good laboratory practice in their decision to pursue a career in Biology education. Findings from respondents point out to a lack of adequately equipped laboratory facility for Biology Education Students. Findings from respondents are indicative that the shortcomings of laboratory practice in the school negatively influences academic outcome and career choices in Biology Education.
