ABSTRACT
This study aimed at examining the influence of teachers’ professionalism on students’ achievement in Economics among public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. Related literatures of eminent scholars views on the study were reviewed. A descriptive survey was employed to carry out the study. Three research questions were raised to guild the study. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The total population comprises of all teachers in public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area. While the sample was a total 58 respondents. The research instrument employed for this study was a self-structured questionnaire that sought information from the respondents from selected schools. The reliability of the research instrument was ascertained using test-retest reliability technique. The reliability of the retrieved instrument was ascertained using Crombach Correlation coefficient method. A reliability coefficient score of 0.85 was obtained. Data was collected from the respondents and analyzed using descriptive statistics such as Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient Findings revealed that Teachers’ qualification has a significance influence on students’ achievement in Economics in Ovia North East Local Government Area. It was also revealed that teachers’ attitude has a significance influence on students’ achievement in Economics in Ovia North East Local Government Area. Based on the findings, it was recommended that Different awareness programs such as workshop, seminar e.t.c may be conducted for the professional development of teachers. It was also recommended that Teachers should be concerned with their personality as it is part of their profession.
