ABSTRACT

This study investigated the influence of social media on the moral decadence of secondary school students in Edo State. The descriptive survey research design was used in the study. A sample of one hundred (100) students was selected from a population of nine thousand six hundred and eighty four (9,684) secondary school students in Egor Local Government Area, Edo State. A simple random sampling technique was used for the selection, in which four secondary schools were selected, made up of 25 students each from two public secondary schools and two private secondary schools. A self-constructed questionnaire tagged “Influence of Social Media on the Moral Decadence of Secondary School Students Questionnaire” carefully examined by my project supervisor was used for the data collection. The instrument was validated by two lecturers in the Department, and found to be reliable using Cronbach’s Alpha with a reliability coefficient of 7. The results gotten showed that, Students are exposed to some social media platform(s); Students access social media via various means; Students have various reasons why they make use of social media; Social Media has an effect on the moral decadence of students.
