ABSTRACT
The project was designed to investigate the influence of internet language on the academic achievement of students in English language in Egor Local Government Area, Edo State. The Descriptive type of survey design was adopted for this study. 200 random students were picked through simple sampling to participate in the study by providing data which were sought through the use of a questionnaire which was made valid by the researcher’s supervisor and it was analysed using descriptive statistics of simple frequency and percentiles. It was revealed that students' addiction to social media affect their progression in school, because ample time that ought to be channeled to learning, reading and innovation is wasted because of the wanton desire to meet new persons online; Although, when put into good use, studies reveals that it could have numerous advantages such as unlimited access to materials online that improves learning, avenue to engage in group discussions with no barrier of distance and a plethora of educational videos.. To a great extent, social media also influences the correct usage grammatical structures which increases speaking and writing skills as well as the use of acronyms in class room due to internalization of Media languagee. Despite these merits, it is important to restrict but not outrightly ban the use of the inter.net so students can improve tremendously in their academics. It was therefore recommended that the government and school administrators must organize seminars and workshops to enlighten pupils on the adverse effect that olexcessive use of media handles can have on their intellectual achievement. They should also be monitored by parents and teachers on how they utilise various sites; Instructors should engage social platforms in teaching and learning process. This will help condition students to using social media appropriately.
