ABSTRACT
The study investigated the influence of single parenting on truant behaviour among undergraduate in a Nigeria public university: A case study of University of Benin, Benin City. To achieve the purpose of the study, four research questions were raised and examined. The sample size for the study was made up of 200 respondents. Data collected from the respondents was analyzed using descriptive statistics, precisely mean and standard deviation, while all hypotheses were tested for significance at an alpha level of 0.05 using inferential statistics, especially the independent sample t-test statistics. The findings from the study include that some of the factors responsible for truant behaviour among undergraduate students in the University of Benin were peer group influence, financial constraints, inadequate support system and laziness. It was concluded that there is a significant influence of single parenting on truant behaviour among undergraduate students in University of Benin. The study recommended among others that there should be collaboration between the government and all educational stakeholders to develop support programmes specifically tailored for undergraduate students from single-parent households to address the underlying factors contributing to truant behavior.
