ABSTRACT
This study investigated the influence of school facilities on the academic performance of Public Senior Secondary Schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. The population of the study is made up of the twelve (12) public senior secondary schools in Egor local government area of Edo State with the total population of six thousand eight hundred and thirty eight (6838) senior secondary school students. Four schools were selected as sample out of the twelve (12) schools using the convenient sampling technique. Also, four research questions were raised to guide the study. They include; what is the state of school facilities in the public senior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State?, what are the influences of school facilities on student’s academic performance in the public senior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State?, can the provision of adequate facilities cause students to perform highly in examination in the public senior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State? And What is the way forward?
The findings of the study revealed that there was no adequate school facilities and also the facilities for teaching and learning, the lack of adequate facilities in public senior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State has negative impact on the students and has resulted to low academic performance and the provision of adequate school facilities will cause students in public senior secondary schools in Egor Local. Government Area of Edo State to perform highly in examinations.
Based on the findings, the study concluded that provision of adequate facilities will enhance the academic performance of students in public senior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State and therefore recommended that government should build more schools and equip them with facilities in order to avoid pressure on the available schools and facilities and that school heads, teachers and students should be re-oriented on how to effectively utilize these facilities thereby improving teaching and learning.
