ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to investigate the influence of school facilities on the academic performance of secondary school students in the Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. Four research questions were raised to guide the study; How do classroom conditions, including factors like lighting, acoustics, seating arrangements, and ventilation, impact students' concentration, engagement, and ultimately their academic performance?, to what extent does the availability of resources such as well-equipped libraries, up-to-date laboratory facilities, and learning materials contribute to students' overall learning experiences and academic achievement?, How does the integration of technology into classrooms, access to digital resources, and online learning platforms influence students' understanding of subjects, their information retention, and their technological literacy, thereby affecting their academic performance?, what role do recreational facilities like sports facilities, art studios, and cultural spaces play in fostering students' physical fitness, creativity, and holistic development, and are there any discernible links between participation in these activities and academic achievement?
Descriptive research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprises of the twenty-two (22) secondary schools located in the Oredo Local Government Area of Edo state. Two hundred (200) students were randomly selected from the population.
The major findings of the study revealed that a well organised and maintained classroom impacts student’s ability to stay focused and concentrate on what is being taught, It was revealed that the lightning in classroom is adequate and makes it easier to see and read in all weather conditions. It was also revealed that resources and learning materials provided are relevant and up-to-date, it was also seen that the availability of resources and learning materials impacts student’s ability to understand and grasp the subject matter, it was seen that they faced many challenges or difficulties due to a lack of resources or learning materials. It was seen that the use of classroom technology enhances students’ understanding of subjects.
