ABSTRACT
This scholarly work focus on the enormous influence of Religion on political participation in Nigeria emphasising the the years between 1999-2019 where the influence is already affecting the principles of governance in Nigeria since the country is democratic and not Theocratic. 12 The study searches the old Nigerias Political institutions, its structure, how they were govern, and the involvement of the Nigerias' Indigenous Religion on the conduct of administering the people. The olden Political structures in Nigeria were monarchical in places such as Benin, Yoruba, Jukun, Igala etc, these places were govern by the Kings who were also the representatives of the gods, their governance was not complete without getting to hear from the Chief Priest who hears and speaks directly for the gods, this was a well balanced institution though, some places in Nigeria like Igbo and Tiv people did not develop political institutions, they were governed by elders and the village Assembly.
