ABSTRACT

The study investigated the influence of principals’ characteristics on their administrative job performance in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State of Edo State.

The descriptive survey research method was adopted for the study. Five research questions were raised to guide the study. Questionnaire was designed and used for data collection. The population for the study comprised all the 20 principals in the 20 public secondary schools in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State. The sample size for the study was made up of the 20 principals in the 20 public secondary schools in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State. Data collected from the respondents was analyzed using descriptive statistics, precisely mean and standard deviation, while all hypotheses were tested for significance at an alpha level of 0.05 significance.

 Based on the findings, it was discovered that there is a significant relationship between principals’ age, experience, qualification, gender and school location and their administrative job performance in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State. It was therefore recommended that government should offer targeted training programmes that addresses leadership skills, technological proficiency, and cultural competency, to enhance the performance of principals across different age groups, genders, and school locations.
