ABSTRACT
This study was primarily designed to investigate influence of poverty cognitive development in Oredo Local Government area of Edo State. This study, a qualitative one, used an exploratory design. It adopted the purposive sampling method to recruit ten participants from Ogbe Secondary School and Oba Ewuare Grammar School, respectively. The data gathered from the field was analysed with a manual content analysis method. Ten participants were used for this study, and the in-depth interview method and interview guide were used to elicit information from participants via a recording device. The member checking method was used to verify the instrument, and narrative and manual content analysis were used to analyze the data. The study found that poverty causes physical, psychosocial, and emotional harm to children. The study recommends that the government create good and feasible welfare policies and programs to help ameliorate the pain of those living in poverty.
