ABSTRACT
This study investigates the influence of political instability on implementation of Nigerian policy in secondary school. three (3) research questions were raised guide the study. A sample of one hundred and ninety six (196) teachers from the 14 public senior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. The questionnaire was the major instrument used for the study and was designed and validated by experts in the Department of Educational management, Faculty of Education University of Benin. Frequency Table and simple percentage is used in the presentation and analysis of data gathered
The findings underscore the challenges faced during politically unstable periods, including resource diversion, corruption, and erosion of public trust. Moreover, the study reveals notable differences in the effectiveness of educational policies between stable and politically unstable periods. Based on the findings of the study, the following recommendations were made for the study: Political stability is paramount for the effective implementation of education policies. Therefore, efforts should focus on enhancing governance stability through measures such as strengthening democratic institutions, promoting rule of law, and ensuring peaceful transitions of power. Stable governance provides the foundation for consistent policy formulation and implementation, thus mitigating the disruptive effects of political instability on education. Corruption and mismanagement significantly contribute to the challenges faced during politically unstable periods.
Consequently there is a need to intensify efforts in combating corruption within the education sector and improving resource management practices. This includes implementing transparent budgetary processes, enhancing oversight mechanisms, and enforcing accountability measures to ensure that education funds are allocated and utilized efficiently and effectively.
