ABSTRACT
This study aimed to examine the influence of peer group counseling on emotional support among undergraduate students at the University of Benin (UNIBEN). The specific objectives were to assess the impact of peer counseling on emotional support, explore gender differences in the relationship between peer counseling and emotional support, and examine age-related variations in this relationship. The study drew upon the Social Support Theory and the Self Determinism Theory to provide a theoretical framework. This study adopted the survey research design, and a questionnaire was used as the research instrument. The study population comprised 500 undergraduate students from Faculty of education, and a representative sample of 100 undergraduate students of. University of Benin. The findings revealed that peer counselling and emotional support have a significant positive influence on undergraduates at the University of Benin. This means that students who engage in peer counselling and receive emotional support experience notable benefits, These benefits may include improved academic performance, better mental health, enhanced coping skills, and increased social integration ,The data show that the support systems provided by peers are effective and contribute meaningfully to the students' overall university experience , Additionally, the university should enhance its counseling and support services to help students develop effective coping strategies and promote their overall well-being.
