ABSTRACT
It has been discovered that the major cause of poor performances in sports can be linked to the issue of Dietary or Nutritional life style of the athlete, several athletes have taken into using illegal means of achieving competitive edge over their contemporaries and thus abadonning the great benefit associated with proper Nutrition. the study was conducted to investigate the influence of Nutritional practice on athletes sports performances, in order to Carry out this task four research question was raised to guide the study.
The descriptive research design was adopted for the study and a radon sampling Techniques was used to obtain the sample size, the research Instrument was a structured questionnaire which was drawn covering the four research question, it was administered to 103 student athletes in the university of Benin, the test retest reliability method was used to establish the reliability of the instrument by administering the instrument to twenty (20) respondents who are not part of the study and after two weeks the same instrument was administered to them and the score from both administration we're correlated using the Pearson's product-moment correlation (PPMC) to establish it coefficient and the reliability score obtained was 0.63 which shows that the instrument is reliable, the data collected was analyzed using simple percentages and frequency.
Findings shows that it would be impossible to achieve satisfactory Result from athletes if adequate Nutrition is not put into consideration, as Nutrition plays an essential role in sports performances. Following these findings the following recommendations were made: Athlete's who indulge in sports events greater than 60 minutes duration should be provided with additional Nutritional strategy to enhance performance. Like every other planning carried out towards a successful sport outing, planning for Nutrition should also be included.
