ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of motivation on university Workers’ Job Performance in Edo State. The sought to look at how best the level of motivation influences workers performance within the universities in Edo State. The study was guided by five research questions and four hypotheses. It was a descriptive survey. The population of the study consisted of all universities workers in Edo State totaling 10,731 . A sample of 240 made up of 119 male and 121 female workers were drawn from three universities in Edo State. The statistical tools used to test the four hypotheses were t-test and Oneway Anova, and all the findings were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study used frequencies, mean, and percentages to answer five research questions raised for the study. The findings revealed that motivation had significant influenced on workers’ job performance.It was also discovered that one of the major problem facing employees‟ was that, staff lack sponsorship to attend conference/workshop. The researcher therefore recommended that Management should increase the level of sponsorship on conferences and workshops for both academic and non-academic staff. The results revealed that there were differences in the level of motivation between the female and the male workers’ in their job performance and that male workers had higher level of motivation. Based on that, the research recommended that employers should formulate motivational policies and procedures that will enable both female workers and male workers be on the same page taking cognizance of their gender differences. Another recommendation based on the findings is that Management should have a comprehensive motivation scheme in all aspects in the universities as this works directly proportionally to the output of the employees.
