ABSTRACT
This research project is titled influence of lifelong learning on the socioeconomic wellbeing of women in Ovia north east LGA EDO State. The major aim of this study is to determine the influence of lifelong learning on the socioeconomic wellbeing of women. As a consequent of the above, the review of related literatures was done to provide a good basis for the conclusion of the work. Four (4) research questions were raised to guide the study. The sample consist of two hundred and fifty six (256) women from the fourteen adult learning centers in Ovia north east local government area of Edo state. This was selected through the census sampling technique. The questionnaire which was tested and validated was adopted as the instrument for data collection. Data collected from the questionnaire were analysed using descriptive statistics comprising of frequency counts, simple percentage, mean and standard deviation.
From the findings of this study, it can be seen that lifelong learning programmes for the socioeconomic development of women such as apprenticeship Programmes, vocational training programmes, computer training Programmes, playing a new game or sport, leadership development Programmes amongst others would go a long way to provide women with economic skills, improve their relationship with neighbors, knowledge of use of modern technological devices, acceptance of leadership positions and opened towards accepting divergent opinions. It was further revealed that the major factors militating against the successful implementation of the aforementioned lifelong learning programmes on the socioeconomic wellbeing of women can be attributed to poor awareness of developmental programmes, poor funding of training programmes, poor societal recognition etc. It was therefore, recommends among others that there should be increase in the number of development programmes available to women in order for them to immensely benefit from the programmes. It was futher recommended that investment and attention in women's development programmes should increase so as to attract high rate of participation of women in the programmes.
