ABSTRACT
The study investigated the influence of learning environment on the academic performance of senior secondary school students in Ovia North East Local Government Area. Five research questions was raised. Research questions one two and three were answered while research question four and five were hypothesized and tested at a 0.05 level of significance
The descriptive survey research which adopted the correlational research design was employed in this study. The study population was four thousand, nine hundred and fifteen (4915) students from twenty_seven(27) public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo state. The sample size comprised of One hundred and five (105) students from fifteen (15) public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo state. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire which was distributed to the respondents. The instrument was retrieved and analyzed using frequency, percentages, mean and standard deviation to answer research question 1, 2 and 3 while.
The study revealed that the extent to which learning environment is conducive among secondary school in Ovia North East Local Government of Edo State is very low. The study also revealed that the level of academic performance of secondary school students in Ovia North East Local Government in Edo State is low. There was a significant relationship between learning environment and academic performance among secondary school students in Ovia North East Local. Based on the findings it was recommended that Government of Edo State through the office of Edo State Ministry of Education should maintain the conducive Environment for secondary school in Ovia North East Local Government Area and also motivate the teaching force in order to increase their efficiency in teaching which in turn will improve the academic performance of the student
