ABSTRACT
The study assessed the influence of leadership style and motivation on workers, a case study of Guinness Nigeria PLC's Benin City Plant. The researcher was interested in finding out the effective leadership style to be carried out in the organization. The incidence of leaders not being able to achieve aims and objectives is such a disheartening occurrence when we consider the importance subordinates place on leaders. Five research questions were raised to guide the study. A total of sample of 200 respondents were drawn through using a stratified and random sampling technique was used for the study.The descriptive survey method was adopted for the research design and thus the data for the study were collected with the use of questionnaire. After experts' validation of the instrument, it was pilot-tested for reliability. The instrument's reliability was determined using the Cronbach alpha procedure, the correlation coefficient of the instrument was found to be 0.72. This revealed that the instrument used was relatively stable. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The major findings of the study include the fact that the leadership styles adopted have great impact on employees` motivation and job satisfaction in Guinness Nigeria Plc Benin City plant. The study concludes that the skills of the staff are becoming outdated and the leaders should encourage the employees on training programmes to enhance higher productivity. The study proffered a numbers of recommendations which include the fact that the Guinness Nigeria PLC Benin City plant should adopt a more Democratic leadership style to include more workers in the decision making process as this should go a long way as workers will have a feeling of participation and belongings, and that motivation such as improve condition of service, reward for hard work, dedication and honest display of staff, promotion of workers as at when due among others, should be vigorously pursued by management of Guinness Nigeria Plc Benin City plant, in order to enhance workers productivity.Guinness Nigeria Plc Benin City plant should send their workers for training programmes to upgrade their skills and to encourage them in order to reduce staff turnover. Guinness Nigeria Plc Benin City plant should ensure that there be a continuous re-training programme to keep updating they skills among others.
