ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to determine the Influence of Language Laboratory for Effective Teaching and Learning of Oral English and so five (5) research questions were raised to enable the researcher achieve the researcher achieve the objectives of the study.
The study adopted the descriptive survey research deign. The population of the study comprised if one thousand and eighty-seven students (1087) while the sample of the study comprised of two hundred and seventeen (217) students from five (5) secondary schools in Egor local Government Area of Edo State. The instrument used for data collection was the questionnaire. The face content approach was used to determine the validity of the instrument, while the spilt half reliability method was used to ascertain the reliability of the instrument. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency count, simple percentage and mean score analyses
The analysis revealed that the availability of language laboratories in secondary schools in Egor local government is low, the frequency with which English teachers use the language laboratories in secondary schools in Egor local government area is low, and that the English teachers are moderately competent and that language laboratory makes oral English class interesting, and that the influence of language laboratories on the learnings of oral English is that its improves the listening skills of students, helps students pronounce correctly and properly identify sounds in oral English. Language laboratory motivates students to participate in oral English classes.
Based on the findings, the researcher recommended that State Ministry of Education should endeavor to provide more language laboratories for the benefit of the student in the area and that school administrators should regularly expose English teachers to training on language and other educational tecSShnology.
