SUMMARY
Introduction In Nigeria, Science is taught at all levels of the educational system from pre-primary through primary and secondary school to tertiary levels. At the levels below the tertiary level some components of science are taught to all students before 2011 when science is no longer a part of core subjects; science in primary schools is taught as a component of basic science and technology (Federal Ministry of Education, 2007a; 2007b) infused with approved curriculum innovations in the areas of environmental education, drug abuse education, population and family life education and sex education (Afemikhe & Imobekhai, 2014). At the junior secondary school level science is taught as basic science (Federal Ministry of Education, 2007c). The themes covered at this level include: you and the environment, you and non-living things, science and development and you and energy.
