ABSTRACT
The study was on The Influence of Laboratory Practicals in teaching photosynthesis on Secondary School Students performance in Biology. The study was conducted with the objectives among others to: investigate the Influence of Laboratory practicals in teaching photosynthesis and how it affects the performance of students in Biology.
In line with the stated objectives, four research questions were formulated for the study. The study adopted the use of descriptive survey research design and out of the total population of 43 Biology teachers, 25 copies of questionnaire were administered, consisting of Biology teachers selected from Seven (7) sample schools in Oredo Local Government, Benin City, Edo State. Theinstrumenttagged, Influence of Laboratory practicals in teaching photosynthesis on Secondary School Students performance BiologyQuestionnaire was used to collect data from respondents. This instrument was validated and and a reliability index of 0.7 was obtained. Data gathered were analyzed using descriptive statistics namely frequency distribution and percentage Mean value.
Findings of the study among others revealed that teachers derive joy in using laboratory practicals in teaching photosynthesis. It also helps teachers in developing their Skills while using laboratory practical in teaching Photosynthesis. The researcher recommended that: all the topics in Biology which are practical oriented should be taught in the laboratory, using all the necessary equipment and reagents. Also, science Laboratories in schools should be equipped with modern equipment and other necessary teaching aids or instructional materials
