ABSTRACT

The purpose of this Project work is to examine Influence of Instructional Materials in promoting Students’ academic performance in Basic Technology in Uhunmwonde local government area, Edo state The purpose of this study is to find, Teacher's knowledge of the use of Instructional Materials, Teacher's perception of Instructional materials on Academic Performance of Students in Basic Technology, Use of Instructional materials during Basic Technology in Classes, The Effect of the use of Instructional Materials in teaching and learning of Basic Technology. The research questions were raised as following, what's the teacher's knowledge of use of Instructional Materials?, What's the teacher's perspective of Instructional Materials on the Academic Performance of Students in Basic Technology?, To what extent Instructional materials are used during Basic Technology classes?, To what extent the Effects of Instructional materials in teaching and learning in Basic Technology?

The area of study comprises of the technical colleges in Edo State. Descriptive survey design was employed for the study with a population of 1, 583 students, with sample population of 100 students were in research. Structure questionnaire was the instrument use to collect data for the study. Four research questions were raised and analyzed using arithmetic mean method.

The finding of this study revealed that Teachers knowledge towards Instructional Materials are low, teachers have low perception towards Instructional materials, teachers hardly use Instructional materials frequently and The use of Instructional Materials have high performance in the students if frequently used. However, the recommendation of the study is Basic Technology teachers should be trained and retrained to increase the knowledge of Instructional materials and ensure adequate usage of the Instructional materials, The usage of Instructional materials should be increased to enable the students benefits maximally from it. This will enable prosper achievement of the objective of learning through the use of Instructional materials.
