INFLUENCE OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY(ICT) ON THE TEACHING AND LEARNING OF BUSINESS STUDIES IN JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL IN OVIA NORTH EAST, EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

This study focused on the Influence of Information and Communication Technology on the teaching and learning of business studies in junior secondary school in Ovia North East, Edo State. In the course of the study, a total population of 5290 student was used and a sample size of 100 respondents was sampled. From the research carried out, it was found out that the use of information and communication technology in teaching business studies help to improve students problem solving and critical thinking skills, enable students retention of business studies knowledge, enhance students understanding of business studies, help to contributes positively to overall academic performance and also positively affects students engagement and interest in learning. The use of information and communication technology in teaching and learning of business studies makes learning more interesting, encourages self studying and develop in the students the ability to reason in other to bring about effective performance and promote better understanding among business studies. It was concluded that information and communication technology are most relevant in the teaching and learning process of business studies. Based on the findings of this study, recommendations were made which include; information and communication technology is a relevant tool for business studies students, therefore, it should be incorporated into business studies lessons to enhance teaching and learning, utilization of digital resources will have a lasting effect on the academic performance of the students, business studies teachers should encourage students-centered approach, and there should be continuous and regular evaluation of the effectiveness of ICT integration.
