ABSTRACT
This study investigates the influence of indiscipline on academic performance of secondary school students in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. To achieve this purpose four research questions were raised to guide the study
The study adopted the descriptive survey type of research design and the major instruments used for data collection was the questionnaire. The questionnaire was validated and the reliability was determined through test-retest method. The data collected were presented in frequency count and percentage for all the four (4) research questions examined. The sample for the study consists of twenty (20) respondents drawn from five (5) secondary school in the study area through a simple random sampling techniques.
The findings of the study revealed that truancy is the commonest type of indiscipline exhibited by secondary school students in Ovia North East Local Government Area. It was also found that there is difference between indiscipline and the academic performance of secondary school students in the area. The analysis further revealed that the socio-economic background. It was recommended that government should ensure that most schools in the area are fenced with security personnel at the gates to prevent students from moving in and out of the school during school hours and those school administrators, parents and teachers must show good examples to students since they imitate and copy behaviours. It was further recommended that in case of serious misconducts, parents of children should be invited to the school by the administrators.
