ABSTRACT
This study was designed to examine the influence of Indiscipline on the academic performance of secondary school students in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State. In achieving this purpose, the following research questions were put forward and tested:
1. What is indiscipline among Secondary Students in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area?
2. What forms of Indiscipline are common among Secondary School Students?
3. What are Socio-economic background of parents in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State?
4. What are the nature of school administrative policy on discipline in Seconds Schools under Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State?
The study adopted the descriptive survey type of research design and the major instruments used for data collection was the questionnaire and the validity and reliability was determined through test-retest method. The data was collected and presented in frequency and percentage for the four (4) research questions. The sample for this study consist of twenty (20) respondents drawn from five (5) secondary schools in the study area. Through a simple random sampling technique.
The sample of this study revealed that truancy is the most common type of Indiscipline exhibited by secondary school students in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State. It was also found that there are difference between indiscipline and academic performance of secondary school students in that area. It was recommended that schools in that area should be fenced with security personnel’s at the gate and also within the school environment to prevent students from loitering around during school hours and activities and teachers should also lay good examples through their mode of dressing, speech so that the students would be able to imitate them and copy their behaviors.
