INFLUENCE OF IN-SERVICE TRAINING ON THE JOB PERFORMANCE OF BUSINESS EDUCATION LECTURERS

ABSTRACT

The study assessed the influence of in-service training on the job performance of business education lecturers in tertiary institutions in Edo and Delta States. Six research questions guided the study and were answered with descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation. Three null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted survey research design. Cronbach alpha was used to compute the reliability of the instrument which yielded 0.88. The instrument was validated by three experts. A questionnaire titled In-service Training Programme Questionnaire (ITPQ). A 48 – items questionnaire was administered on the respondents by the researcher and two research assistants. The results revealed that mentoring, coaching, performance appraisal, social networking, job rotation, job shadowing influenced on job performance of business education lecturers’ job performance. Based on these findings, it was recommended that deliberate efforts should be made by management and councils of various institutions to ensure that these variables are sustained; there should be genuine demands of business education lecturers to strengthen their motivation, job satisfaction and commitment to minimize turnover, among others.
