ABSTRACT
The objective of this research was to examine how the act of squatting in hostels affects the academic performance, interpersonal relationships, and emotional adjustment of students at the University of Benin. A descriptive survey research design was utilized for this study, and data was collected using a tool called the Influence of Hostel Squatting on Academic Performance, Interpersonal Relationship, and Emotional Adjustment of Students. To guide this study, three research questions were created. Furthermore, the study was anchored on the Transactional Model of Stress and Coping. The research method was descriptive survey with a population of 200 while the research instrument was a questionnaire. The study revealed that there was a significant influence of hostel squatting on academic performance of students. It also revealed that there was a significant influence of hostel squatting on the interpersonal relationship of students in the University of Benin. The study further revealed that there was a significant influence of hostel squatting on emotional adjustment of students in the university. Based on the findings of this study, recommendations and suggestions were made for students, parents, lecturers and university administrators and relevant agencies
