ABSTRACT

The principal aim of this research is to ascertain the influence of the home environment on academic achievement among senior secondary school students. To determine this, four research questions where formulated to guide this study. The study consisted of 100 students who attended 13 schools located in Egor Local Government Area in Edo State. The questionnaire was used to gather information for the study. The researchers used a descriptive survey research design. The information was looked at using average (x) and how spread out the information was (SD). The tool used was checked and we made sure it was trustworthy by using a measure called Cronbach alpha, which gave a score of 0. 71 The findings from this study was seen that home environment influences a child academic performances and children tend to behave poorly if their environment is badly structured and a child confidence comes from a supportive home environment. It as concluded that the home environment plays a significant role in a child’s academic performance and a supportive, stable and nurturing environment can creates a conducive atmosphere for academic success. It was recommended that parents should be educated and have time for their kids after work, parents should buy learning materials for the children and also provide a supportive environment for the children.
