This study investigated influence of Home Economics Laboratory equipment on effective teaching and Learning of Home economics in junior secondary school in Ovia North East Local Government Area. Four research questions were raised to guide the study and one hypothesis was formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The descriptive survey design was adopted in this study. The population of this study comprised of 6,450 junior secondary school students in the 22 public secondary schools and 136 private secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State, a sample of 2% of the entire population, that is, a sample size of 120 junior secondary school students from four (4) public and private secondary schools were randomly selected for this study.
The research instrument that was used for data collection was structured questionnaire to seek the opinion of the respondents on the subject matter. It was however subjected to face and content validity by the researcher's supervisor and one other expert in the department of Vocation and Technical Education. The reliability was determined using 20 respondents who will not be part of the study population. However, Alpha value of 0.89 was obtained. The Data collected were analyzed using mean (x) and Standard deviation. Results revealed that no significance difference between male and female students on the influence of home economics laboratory equipment for effective teaching and learning of Home economics in junior secondary schools in Ovia North East Local government Area.
Result of the study revealed that: Influence of laboratory equipment on students' interest in learning of home economics is of high extent, and there is a high extent to which laboratory equipment influences students' achievement in learning of home economics. The study concluded that appropriate home economics laboratory equipments can be effective in promoting logical development and the development of some inquiry and practical skills in home economics. It was recommended among others that; Government should ensure laboratory equipment are provided in all institutions to arouse students' interest as well as facilitate effective teaching and learning of Home Economics.
