ABSTRACT
The study investigated the influence of guidance and counselling on attitude to learning amongst private senior secondary school students in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. To achieve the purpose of the study, three research questions were raised and answered. The population of the study was made up of all the eight hundred and eighty three (883) SS1 students from 20 private senior secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. The sample size for the study was made up of 200 respondents. Using the simple random sampling technique, 10 students from the private school each in SS1 were randomly selected from the 20 private secondary schools, thus making a total sample size of 200 respondents. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The instrument for data collection is a selfdesigned questionnaire titled “Influence of Guidance and Counselling on Attitude to Learning Questionnaire (IGCALQ)”. Data collected from the respondents was analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The findings from the study include that there is positive attitude of students towards learning in private senior secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. It was concluded that there is a significant influence of guidance and counselling on students’ attitude to learn in private senior secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. The study recommended among others that secondary schools should integrate regular, structured counselling sessions into the school timetable in order to provide continuous support to students, helping them to develop positive attitudes towards learning.
