INFLUENCE OF GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING IN SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS STUDENTS ATTITUDES TOWARDS LEARNING IN OVIA NORTH EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

The study investigated the influence of guidance and counselling in Senior Secondary Schools Students attitude towards learning in Ovia North East L.G.A of Edo State. Four research questions were raised to guide the study. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for this study. The population of the study was a total number of all students in the one hundred and seventy four (174) secondary schools in Ovia North East L.G.A of Edo State. The sample size for this study is a total number of one hundred (100) students adopting the simple random sampling technique. The data retrieved from respondents were critically checked for completeness and accuracy. The data was analysed with the use of frequency tables and percentages. The findings from the study revealed that the limitations to the influence of guidance and counselling in Senior Secondary Schools Students attitude towards learning in Ovia North East L.G.A of Edo State are lack of facilities dedicated for the purpose of guidance and counselling services in schools. Then, the lack of support and collaboration with staff an school management in effecting counselling programs in schools. Also, it was discovered that lack of funding by the government in schools is a major limitations. Therefore it was recommended that schools should dedicate offices and departments for the purpose of guidance and counselling services and there should be collaboration between the school administration and the counsellors. Also, it was recommended that the government should fund schools with adequate materials for guidance and counselling services.
