ABSTRACT

The study examined Influence of gender violence on girl child education in secondary schools in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area, Edo State, Nigeria. Four research questions were formulated to guide the study.

The Descriptive survey research design was employed to guide the study. The study samples 150 students selected from a total of 21 public Secondary schools located in the Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area. The study employed the Simple random sampling technique to choose 150 teachers. The computed sample size of 150 was based on a sample population of 3,839 in 21 Public Secondary schools in Ikpoba okha Local Government Area,The research instrument was a questionnaire designed by the researcher.

The instrument was validated by the researcher’s supervisor, necessary corrections was made on the questionnaire before it was administered to students that were selected for the study. Data was collected using a questionnaire. In administering the questionnaire, the face-to-face method was adopted to minimize the chances of errors in the process of responding to it. Data was analyzed using simple percentage and frequency count to get the accurate variation.

The study found out that Gender violence practices is becoming rampant Also, the findings of the study found that both male and females are affected although the study was basically for the female. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended amongst others that the influence of gender violence especially on the girl-child as most researchers have cast blame on culture and poverty because they seem to be the bedrock of the cause of inequality on women. All over the globe and especially in Africa, the female folks still struggle to find their voice and this situation in turn is breeding the wrong initiative of feminism and inequality in both genders.
