ABSTRACT
Rewards through research and much studies have financial reward have been proven to be a source of motivation in relation to the topic that financial and non financial rewardsand its influence on the performance of students’ athletes in tertiary education sports. The study was made possible through research hypothesis,objectives and questions that included the influence of financial rewards on the performance of athletes in tertiary education sports, the influence of recognition and awards on the performance of students athletes in tertiary education sports, influences of healthcare insurance on the performance of students athletes in tertiary education sports.
Literature review covering relevant text and documents in relation to this was done. The study was carried out among students’ athletes in University of Benin (UNIBEN). A sample of 100 students’ athletes were taken. The researcher administered questionnaire to the selected respondents for data collection using a descriptive statistics of frequency and percentage for their bio data, while mean and standard deviation was used for analysis of the research questions. The results of the study, therefore, showed that: financial rewards had an influence on the performance of students’ athletes, granting of scholarships,awards,recognition and healthcare insurance had an influence on the performance of students’ athletes.
