INFLUENCE OF E-LEARNING FACILITIES IN TEACHING AND LEARNING OF OFFICE TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME IN UNIVERSITIES IN EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

This study determined the Influence of E-learning Facilities in Teaching and Learning of Office Technology and Management Programme in Universities in Edo State ( a case study of University of Benin). Five research questions were raised to guide the study and one hypothesis was formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The  study employed a descriptive survey research design. The population of the study comprised one hundred and two (102) 400 level business education students in the Department of Vocational and Technical Education, Faculty of Education, University of Benin, Benin City. The sample size was 102, 400 level business education students in university of Benin, Benin City. As a result of the manageable size, the entire population was used as sample size; hence, census sampling was employed.

The instrument used for the study was structured questionnaire. The questionnaire was titled “Influence of E-learning Facilities in Teaching and Learning of Office Technology and Management Questionnaire (IELFTLOTMQ)”. It was subjected to face validity by the researcher’s supervisor and two other experts in the Department of Vocational and Technical Education. The reliability was determined using the internal consistency method which was measured using Cronbach alpha statistic. The instrument was administered to 20 business education students who were not part of the study population. This yielded an alpha value of 0.83. The data collected were analyzed using mean (x), standard deviation (SD), while the hypothesis was tested using two sample independent t- test.

The findings showed that Computer technology influences teaching and learning process to a high extent, Projector influences teaching and learning of OTM programme to a high extent, Interactive whiteboard influences teaching and learning of OTM programme to a high extent, Audio enhancement influences teaching and learning of OTM programme to a high extent, E-learning influence teaching and learning of OTM programme to a high extent and there is no significant difference between male and female students on the influence of e-learning facilities in teaching and learning of Office Technology and Management in Universities in Edo State. It was concluded that e-learning facilities influence teaching and learning of Office Technology and Management in Universities in Edo State. Based on the findings, it was recommended that, there should be regular and periodic in-service training for office and technology educators to update their level of knowledge and adequately equip them with the technical skills and ability to function effectively in the discharge of their duties when teaching OTM.
