ABSTRACT
The study here looks into the Influence of drug abuse on the academic performance of undergraduates in the University of Benin, Benin City Edo state. Four (4) research questions were generated to guide the study. The study adopted descriptive survey research design for the study and the major instruments used for data collection was the questionnaire. The questionnaire was validated and the reliability was determined through test-retest method. A total number of one hundred and sixty (165) forms the sample size for the study selected from seven faculties. The sample was collected using multi-stage sampling technique The findings of the study revealed that the common drugs likely to be used and abused by undergraduate students are: Alcohol, followed by cigarette, traditional snuff. Caffeine/Coffee represent last. It was further revealed that the major types of drugs heard of or seen by undergraduate students are: Marijuana, Codeine and Valium. It was recommended that The Ministry of Education (Federal and State) incollaboration with National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) must intensify their anti-drug campaigns so that our society will be drug-free with special focuses on students.
