ABSTRACT

Doping, the illicit use of performance-enhancing drugs in sports, presents a significant challenge to the integrity of athletic competition and the health of athletes worldwide. Despite decades of efforts by international sports federations and regulatory bodies to combat doping, its prevalence continues to rise, affecting athletes at all levels of competition. This study aims to investigate the influence of doping on athletic programs among student athletes at the University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria. Through a comprehensive examination of the factors contributing to doping, its prevalence, and its health implications, this research seeks to shed light on the complex dynamics surrounding doping in sports. By exploring the impact of doping on sports performance, identifying its root causes, raising awareness of its dangers, and proposing prevention strategies, the study aims to empower athletes, coaches, and stakeholders to combat doping effectively. The findings of this study will not only contribute to the existing body of knowledge on doping in sports but also provide valuable insights for policymakers, sports administrators, and healthcare professionals seeking to address this pressing issue. Ultimately, by promoting clean and fair competition while safeguarding the health and well-being of athletes, this research aims to advance the integrity and ethics of sports in Nigeria and beyond.
